RedR Australia has a new Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Helen Durham AO will lead RedR Australia, an international humanitarian response agency that selects, trains and deploys technical specialists. Helen has returned to Australia after eight years in Geneva as the Director of International Law and Policy at the International Committee of the Red Cross. A highly respected humanitarian lawyer, leader and academic, Helen has more than 30 years’ experience in diplomacy, policy and programs across the world. 

“It is a thrill to be at the helm of RedR Australia,” Helen says. “I’m looking forward to supporting and developing the highly skilled and hardworking humanitarians we send to difficult places – they make a real difference in people’s lives”.

New GHD roles to decarbonise transport and mobility

Global professional services company GHD has appointed Mia Barnard as Transport Decarbonisation Lead – Australia and Erin Jackson as Mobility Lead – Australia.Dean McIntyre, GHD’s Executive General Manager – Australia, says, the newly created roles will “engage the skills we have across all of GHD to help clients realise bold visions for accessible and sustainable transport networks”.

Mia, who was most recently GHD's Market Leader for Transport, will focus on cross-industry collaboration to support clients on their decarbonisation journeys. Erin, most recent a Technical Director, aims to help clients “think differently about complex transport systems and diverse human needs that underpin them”.

Arup appoints new transport leader

Alex Borg has been appointed as Arup’s new Transport Leader in Australasia. Alex has been with Arup for more than 25 years, most recently as leader of the Australasia highways business and Global Highways Skills Leader. “We are seeing particularly strong demand for sustainable urban and regional mobility solutions in Southeast Asian countries, due to strong population growth and rapid urbanisation,” Alex says. “This accelerated infrastructure investment is a critical part of our business plans and our significant footprint across Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia means we are well placed to shape sustainable and connected future cities.” 

AECOM expands its Energy and Transport leadership teams

Simon Spratling has been appointed AECOM’s Renewable Energy & Storage Leader for Australia and New Zealand. Based in Melbourne, Simon is a Clean Energy Council accredited renewable energy engineer, with a technical background in strategy, feasibility, design and construction services for all scales of solar PV systems and, more recently, battery energy storage systems. He joins AECOM from GHD.

Roger Jeffries has been appointed Future Mobility Leader for Australia and New Zealand. Based in Sydney, Roger will work with AECOM’s clients and partners on electrification, transport and data-led services, active transport, transit, surface transport and aviation. In his 14 years with AECOM, Roger has developed innovative on-demand mobility solutions, led teams in planning and developing rail, light rail, bus, cycleways, and precincts for people, and is an industry leader in the future of mobility.

AECOM promotes Ben McMaster to Group Director for QNT Civil Infrastructure

An integral part of AECOM for more than 17 years, Ben McMaster has held various leadership roles in Queensland. Recently, he served as ANZ Water Infrastructure Sector Lead in Brisbane. Ben has extensive experience as a leader in designing, developing and delivering water, civil and transportation projects in Australia and the Middle East.


In his new role, Ben will be responsible for driving AECOM’s water, transport and program management strategies in the region. “I am looking forward to furthering our collaborative partnerships with our clients and the broader market as we navigate the challenges and opportunities facing our industry and deliver transformational infrastructure associated with the 2032 Olympics, energy transition, water security and mobility sectors,” Ben says.
