Arup has strengthened its focus on equitable and sustainable transport solutions with the appointment of David Thompson to the role of Australasia Highways Leader. Based in Sydney, David is a leading voice in design excellence and highly experienced in leading complex, large scale projects. He is also highly experienced in the delivery of active transport, green routes and urban road pedestrian, cycle and vulnerable user mobility solutions. David is passionate about the expansion and development of these services alongside the further integration of Arup’s market leading climate, digital and sustainability capabilities within our roads and streets projects.

Heidi Sick to lead AECOM’s regional energy and environment business

Heidi Sick has been appointed as regional business line director for energy and environment in Australia and New Zealand. In this role, Heidi will lead AECOM’s 700-strong energy and environment team to deliver a pipeline of nationally significant projects as the transition to renewable energy accelerates.  

Heidi joins AECOM from Aurecon, where she held the position of industry director for energy in Australia and New Zealand for nearly five years. Heidi served as the Deputy Chair and board member of the Australian Power Institute and was formerly an advisory panel member of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.  

“I am excited by the opportunity to lead this multidisciplinary team and leverage our global expertise to support clients in delivering sustainable solutions that will shape a cleaner and more reliable energy future,” Heidi says.

Bellrock strengthens risk advisory offerings

Simon Gray and Carina Bogaard have joined risk advisory and advocacy firm Bellrock. The pair have worked together for 17 years. Simon has a three-decade career as an insurance intermediary and a partner in private legal practice. For the last 18 years he has been advising and advocating for construction professionals’ risk. Carina has practised as a risk advisor since 2000. She has had experience specific to construction professionals in the London and Australian insurance markets since 2004.  

Welcoming the pair to the firm, Bellrock Advisory CEO Marc Chiarella notes that customers in the construction sector “have been subject to significant risk, regulatory and claims trends in recent times”. It is “critical to stay in front of these changes by innovating risk management strategy, program design, placement negotiation, ongoing education and claims advocacy”. 

Carina and Simon will practice from Bellrock’s Sydney office and will service construction professionals nationwide.
