More than 2,000 people have attended Contracts for Consultants over the last 15 years, gaining essential advice and insight into negotiating fair and reasonable contracts.
The 2.5-day course is led by barrister, construction law expert and member of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Tony Horan, who has been at the front-end of contracts since the 1990s.
Tony has represented and advised building professionals and consulting engineers from all disciplines. Alongside his law degree, Tony holds Honours in English and a Diploma of Education and has lectured in law at the University of Melbourne since 1988. (Read our story on Tony's tips for negotiating fairer contracts in a back issue of Consulting Matters.)
Contracts for Consultants is Consult Australia’s most popular course, with four fully subscribed sessions held each year, says Consult Australia’s Head of Engagement Linda Gaunt. In-house courses are also popular.
“The feedback from people who attend Contracts for Consultants is universally positive. Contracting is a fast-moving space that is evolving in response to new risks and regulations, and to keep pace with advances in technology, sustainability and collaborative business models. Our members have told us there is room for a one-day refresher course to keep people’s knowledge up to date.”
The one-day refresher Contracts for Consultants course is available to people who have undertaken the full training since 2019, either in-house or through the public program.
Participants will learn about changes to contracting over the past five years, and gain a recap on previously delivered content “to bring it front of mind,” Linda adds.
The refresher Contracts for Consultants can be held in-house, provided each participant has undertaken the full training within the last five years. Consult Australia keeps accurate records and will verify attendees before accepting registrations.
The cost of the Contracts for Consultants refresher is $1,500 (inc GST) for Consult Australia members and $1,900 (inc GST) for non-members.
“This is a fabulous opportunity for those who have already undertaken the full course to refresh their knowledge without having to undertake the full course again. We’re excited to offer this convenient and efficient way for professionals to stay current with the latest in construction contracts,” Linda concludes.
