After nearly a decade as Executive Director of the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF), Dr James Cameron has taken the reins as CEO of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

James has overseen a period of growth for the ACIF, which currently has 24 member associations, including Consult Australia.

Reflecting on his tenure in a farewell address to ACIF members, James noted several key challenges that had shaped the industry, including the Grenfell Fire tragedy in London, the federal government Building Confidence report, Melbourne’s La Crosse fire and Sydney’s Opal Tower structural issues. Throw in the Covid pandemic, the housing affordability crisis and the CFMEU being placed into administration, he noted.

“Throughout various challenges, the construction industry has thrived and gone from strength to strength,” he noted. “There are so many talented, conscientious, industrious and good-hearted people in the industry, and together we are transforming the nation for the better.”
