Welcome to the first edition of the Empowering Small Business Series for 2025! We're excited to bring you this newsletter each month throughout the year, packed with valuable insights and resources. Your feedback is always welcome—feel free to share your thoughts at linda@consultaustralia.com.au.
This month's video has been created for you by Kim Seeling Smith, a future-of-work expert helping organizations leverage AI to enhance talent management, leadership, and workplace culture. As the founder of Ignite Global, she provides practical strategies for integrating AI while keeping leadership human-centric, ensuring businesses thrive in an AI-powered world.
A few words from Kim
AI has forever transformed our lives and businesses. While some embrace it wholeheartedly, others remain hesitant or even fearful. In this brief overview, I’ll help you shift from fear to confidence, build a working AI vocabulary, and explore short demos showcasing how AI can enhance your business. I'll also leave you with thought-provoking questions on reimagining your business, workforce, and leadership—helping you navigate both the challenges and opportunities this incredible technology presents.
Due to high demand, our Online Open Forums are making a comeback in 2025—now happening quarterly! The first session kicks off on Wednesday, March 12, at 1:00 PM, and you won’t want to miss it.
This is your opportunity to dive into Kim Seeling Smith’s AI video, explore how AI is reshaping small businesses, and engage in a live discussion with Kim herself! She’ll be there to answer your questions, share insights, and help you navigate the challenges and opportunities AI presents.
We’ll also review other key topics from our Empowering Small Business Series and more. Keep an eye out for your official invitation, arriving soon!

Consult Australia small business members often work as subcontractors, vulnerable to the risk of unpaid fees, especially where a head contractor goes insolvent. To build up our advocacy case for reforms to security of payment laws (including greater harmonisation between states and protection in case of insolvency) we are working with other industry associations that also represent subcontractors. You can help this joint work by completing this short survey (11 questions) on your experience getting paid (or not!) as a subcontractor.
Your responses will be anonymous unless you agree otherwise. Consult Australia thanks Master Electricians Australia for coordinating the survey. If you have more information you would like to provide, email Kristy Eulenstein, Consult Australia’s Head of Policy & Government Relations.

This is a reminder to all members that Consult Australia’s Contract Checklist is a free member resource you can download to help when you do your contract reviews. It should help team members identify some terms of concern, including clauses that inappropriately allocates liability to a consultant. This checklist also references standard contracts that generally align with standard professional indemnity insurance coverage, such as the Consult Australia Contract Suite (also free to download for members).
If you want to report a government contract that has terms of concern for us to advocate on behalf of industry, email Kristy Eulenstein, Consult Australia’s Head of Policy & Government Relations.
