About the course

The first day of the training introduces the five principles of Safety in Design and highlights how designers can use them. Delegates are then given a thorough breakdown of the legislative framework, including duties and obligations specific to each jurisdiction. An investigation of the proposed new duties of care under the model National OHS Act will inform delegates on how to improve health and safety in both their business conduct and in the design of structures.

Systematic risk management is vital and several tools for hazard identification are explored during the course. Practical skills will be developed in risk assessment and control through discussions, workshops and case study analysis and delegates will have access to an extensive resource bank to keep up-to-date with industry best practice.

Some of the key benefits for participants include documentation templates and training on how to incorporate Safety in Design procedures into their day-to-day activities. At the end of the course, attendees will have improved their critical understanding and thinking of Safety in Design. They will have also gained access to the best methods and practices that industry is currently promoting and using. This course has helped engineers from all disciplines, project managers, architects and safety managers to develop a powerful approach to Safety in Design and market this skill to clients.
