Nicola Grayson

Chief Executive Officer

Nicola Grayson is the Chief Executive of Consult Australia.  Nicola is responsible for implementing the organisation’s strategy, building ongoing external relationships, and for leading Consult Australia’s advocacy and government relations agenda on behalf of member firms.

Nicola is a government relations specialist, and has represented industry associations in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia.  Nicola has worked across a range of sectors including general insurance, consumer finance, alcohol, and education, in addition to consulting engineering.  She has an Honours Degree in Law from the United Kingdom, and was previously Consult Australia’s Director of Policy and Government Relations.

Finance Manager

Penny has a diverse range of industry experience across finance and operations in large multinationals and SMEs across various sectors including marketing, software, recruitment, construction and FMCG. 

Penny seeks to partner with organisations, their stakeholders and staff by respecting and nurturing people and relationships and leading with integrity, honesty and keeping an open mind. She is focused on delivering sustainable results and change for success.

Jan Irvine

SA & NT Manager

Jan joined Consult Australia in December 2009, with a background in finance, IT, recruitment, event management and advocacy, bringing with her the knowledge and experience gained by working in both non profit and corporate organisations in a number of executive and management positions.

Responsible for achieving Consult Australia’s business strategy and representing its member firms from SA and the NT on a wide range of issues, Jan facilitates the connection of business to Government and business to business - working with government at both state and federal level, collaborating with numerous Built and Natural Environment stakeholders. She strives to address critical business issues and improve the business environment in which our member firms work.

Linda Gaunt

Linda Gaunt is a career association manager with over 20 years’ experience in managing not for profit organisations. Linda’s success comprises developing and implementing sound association strategies and identifying market opportunities.

Linda holds a Master’s of Business Administration and in 2005 was honoured to receive the Hudson Private and Community South Australian  Business Woman of the year as well as the overall Telstra South Australian Business Woman of the year.  Linda is now a member of the Telstra Business Woman's Alumni and has acted as a judge for the program on a number of occasions.

David Shillington

David Shillington

QLD Manager

David joined the Consult Australia team in 2020 and has broad experience across the business, community, and sporting sectors. David competed at the highest level in elite sport for 16 years before transferring those skills across to corporate sector. His elite sporting background followed by more recent corporate experience has seen him develop as a business and community leader who excels at progressing communities and building businesses through advocacy, innovation and commercial growth.

VIC & TAS Manager

Kathy has a background working across a number of different industries and sectors, including engineering consultancies, not for profit organisations, print media, government bodies and finance. She is experienced in major organisational change and the facilitation of high performing teams. She has worked closely with Minister’s offices, Managing Director’s, CEOs and Chairs of Boards. She is focused on creating positive outcomes and enabling success by listening to the needs of the people she works with.
Diane Dowdell

Diane Dowdell

WA Manager

Diane has broad experience across government, resources and the consulting sectors and has been working with and supporting industry and professional associations over the past 15 years.  Diane has held policy roles in government, and worked in management roles on major infrastructure and mining developments in both Australia and overseas.  She brings knowledge of policy development, government relations, fostering productive working relationships with government agencies on developments and permitting activities and extensive community stakeholder engagement to Consult Australia.

With several years’ experience in professional associations, Caitlin’s work in the built environment sector spans communications, marketing, project management, public affairs, sponsorship, education, and event management. Caitlin has gained a wealth of knowledge through various national roles and is now eager to drive engagement at a local level; facilitating conversation with key stakeholders and fostering good working relationships with policy-makers to achieve positive outcomes for member firms.

James Robertson

Policy Advisor

James joined Consult Australia in July 2018, bringing with him policy experience across a number of sectors. Prior to joining the team, James was the policy manager at Consult Australia’s sister association in the UK where he was responsible for developing policy positions on key issues affecting the built and natural environment. James also has a background in the Australian Public Service and in consulting, having previously worked in transport, infrastructure, security and health policy areas. James is an avid cricket fan in his spare time.

Policy Advisor (Legal & Regulatory)

Kristy joined Consult Australia in July 2019, after over 15 years in the public service. She has delivered high-profile policy and regulatory initiatives involving significant stakeholder engagement on a range of topics such as gambling, online content, and broadcasting. Kristy is legally trained and enjoys delving into complex legal problems. In her spare time Kristy sews, watches films (featuring powerful women) and looks forward to seeing her Rabbitohs win more NRL premierships.
