Industry Health Check

Consult Australia conducted a membership-wide health check from 21 to 29 May 2020.  Member firms were asked to provide feedback on COVID-19 impacts to date and their perspective on the six-month outlook. This health check highlighted the following concerns for the industry:

  • Two-thirds of member firms are seeing a reduction in work from COVID-19, with one-third of normal operations being the average reduction;
  • Nearly all member firms experiencing a reduction in work indicate that privately funded projects have contributed to this downturn (98 per cent).  This compares to 24 per cent for publicly funded projects;
    Commercial, residential and industrial building were by far the stand out project types impacted;
  • 53 per cent of member firms believe their pipeline of work over the next six months will shrink further; and
  • 56 per cent of member firms anticipate that competition across the industry will become tighter over the next six months.
