Technological Innovation

This Award recognises firms who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the innovative application of new or existing technology.

EDQ Northshore - Structural Condition Survey

The Northshore area is a large urban renewal area that is being transformed into a vibrant, mixed-use precinct. Arcadis provided a structural condition assessment of three existing warehouses. Arcadis also identified digital innovations and data management solutions including, the utilisation of 3D pointcloud survey and BIM model of each site.

SNAPshot is an interactive software that facilitates rapid, real-time noise modelling through ‘what-if scenarios.’ Site personnel can enter various combinations of construction equipment, locations, and operating hours and receive immediate intuitive visual identification of compliance or management requirements along with automated reporting. Cost savings are delivered by reducing expensive time-delays.

Project Gilghi

Aurecon and Ampcontrol

Developed by Aurecon and Ampcontrol, Project Gilghi provides remote Indigenous communities like the Gillen Bore Outstation (approx. 75km from Alice Springs) with a reliable source of quality potable water. The Gilghi solution is a hybrid, off-grid, containerised water treatment plant that makes smart use of renewable power and reverse osmosis.

Digital Twin

Digital Twinning Australia

DTA have built a dynamic digital twin. A 3D model of the client's physical assets is digitally built and then sustained as an as-built. Smart sensors are installed and connected to the digital model creating a live operating version. System performance can be predicted altering how asset maintenance is planned.

Trunk water main overland flooding modelling

GHD applied an innovative combination of technology and data to predict the consequences of water main failures through modelling using spatial data for the entire Hunter Region, NSW. Machine learning algorithms, advanced scripting and automated data processing provided a time and cost-effective result for the client compared to conventional methods.

ACT Law Courts

Integral Group

ACT Law Courts’ existing Audio-visual & e-Court Systems struggled to perform in a traditional format, let alone adapting to new processes technologies. Integral Group brought the facility into the 21st century, using numerous technology innovations, whilst maintaining existing operations. Innovations included: AV over IT Networks, Wireless Presentation, Digital Evidence annotation, One of the first deployments of its kind worldwide.

Albion Park Rail Bypass Design & Construct

Using innovate technologies, SMEC was able to reduce the processing of a digital design from over 1 hour to under 5 minutes. Additionally, using automation, SMEC addressed bridge design challenges, saving the project time. What previously took 5 to 7 days now takes 3 to 5.

Innovative Survey Methodology for Port of Brisbane

SMEC proposed and implemented an innovative survey methodology that has provided the Port of Brisbane with key data on the underside of their wharf structures and the immediate revetment interface. It has given them better visibility, where structural elements can be objectively and safely assessed and monitored for long-term movement.
