Event 1
Future
of Transport – Perth, The Innovations Changing our Transport
Network
Perth is undergoing fundamental
changes to the city’s transport network to service growth and create more
reliable and efficient transport options for our everyday commute.
The first event of the
year will explore two specific high-profile transport projects both in various
stages of development that apply new technologies and innovative thinking
towards creating positive outcomes and improved infrastructure for their users.
Kwinana Smart Freeway – Smart
Freeways operate successfully around the world to manage congestion, improve
safety and make the most of existing infrastructure. Along the Kwinana Freeway,
smart technology will be installed to open and close lanes, adjust speed limits,
and provide co-ordinated traffic signals at on-ramps, to balance the traffic
flows onto the freeway and improve merging. The project will be the first of its
kind in our state.
The Rail Growth Plan (RGP) – to
respond to forecast population and patronage growth, the RGP sets the framework
for a long-term strategy for the evolution of the existing Perth metropolitan
passenger rail network. The RGP brings together and builds upon State Government
planning and studies undertaken by the PTA, as well as drawing on transport
industry best practice from around the world.
