Darwin Boardroom Breakfast

Wednesday 15 August 2018

Denys Stedman, Buy Local Industry Advocate

The Buy Local Industry Advocate role is an independent link between local business and the Northern Territory Government.

Consult Australia invites you to join us at a Boardroom Breakfast with the Buy Local Advocate, Mr Denys Stedman to gain a better understanding of the role, and clarity on how local content and benefits are identified, considered and evaluated at all stages of the procurement and contracting lifecycle.

We’ll also discuss mechanisms established to measure effectiveness and quantifiable items for assessment at the tender stage, and what this means for consultants.

The Advocate’s remit is to:

  • provide an independent advocacy function
  • focus on promoting the buy local principles to both industry and government
  • provide an audit and assurance role about government procurement
  • track the effectiveness of the buy local plan, including monitoring for unintended consequences.

The Advocate also investigates complaints from industry and conducts audits on the awarding and implementation of contracts to ensure

  • Territory enterprises have full, fair and reasonable opportunities to compete for government contracts
  • value for Territory is considered in all aspects of government contracting
  • promotes the adoption of buy local principles by industry.
