With engineers being the 2nd hardest to find skill set in Australia (Manpower) and the critical skills shortage predicted to reach 1.4 million by 2025 (ABS), every consultancy is putting increasing emphasis on employee engagement and retention.

A growing body of research from Harvard Business Review, Gallup and Towers Watson shows that THE KEY to employee engagement and retention (along with motivation, performance and productivity) is a strong relationship between manager and direct report.

Relationship starts with conversation. Unfortunately most managers don’t spend enough time talking to their staff about the things that matter most to meet both the needs of the business — as well as the individual.

In this workshop you will learn a proven, step by step process to plan and conduct effective 1:1 conversations around our 5 FOCUSed Conversations framework; based on over 5,000 exit interviews as well as the latest in international research.

Our presenter, Kim Seeling Smith, is the CEO of Ignite Global, whose work has been recognised by Richard Branson’s 100% Human at Work initiative.

Kim and her team have worked extensively with consulting engineers and architects.

This session will be thought provoking, entertaining and most importantly, will leave you with a step by step process to have robust 1:1 conversations with your staff that will make an immediate impact to your bottom line.

Who Should Attend:

This program is for business leaders, people managers and HR practitioners who want to increase their bottom line through greater performance and productivity while decreasing their own workload and stress.

If you’re serious about wanting a better bottom line, a more productive and effective team and decreased workload and stress for you and your managers without having to have those awful performance management conversations, you will not want to miss this session!

Expected Workshop Outcomes:

You will learn:

  • The hidden financial and non-financial costs of a dis-engaged and un-inspired workforce to you and your business

  • The 8 ‘Currencies of Choice’ that research shows are significantly more effective at driving motivation and performance than pay and benefits

  • The 5 FOCUSed Conversations that bring the 8 ‘Currencies of Choice’ alive for your team

  • How to write a SPOT ON Accountability Framework that will not only help you hire high performers, it will also dramatically decrease performance and behaviour problems

  • How to use the 5 FOCUSed Conversations to replace (or at least enhance) your current annual performance review / appraisal system

This ½ day workshop is a deep dive into the T (Talk) from the LIGHT Up Your Workforce® framework workshop. Attendance at this previous session is encouraged, but not required.

Client Results

Northrop Consulting Engineers have used this model for over 5 years. During that time they have tripled in size, increased the quality of people they are able to attract and retain and decrease employee turnover.

The first manager to implement this framework within Northrop went from having the lowest employee profitability per head, lowest employee engagement scores and highest employee turnover to the highest engagement scores and profitability per head for 2 years in a row. He didn’t lose anyone from his section in 2 1/2 years.

First Mortgage Systems used this model (along with Ignite’s SPOT ON Hiring System) to reduce employee turnover from 45% to 22% in 2 years.
