as CEO from 4 February 2019

Nicola is passionate about our industry and our association and has a wealth of experience gained from time spent in both industry associations and corporate roles which provides her with the skills and insights necessary to build on the association's strong foundation and take us forward to an even brighter future. She has a clear vision for the future of the organisation and a strategic approach to achieving that vision which she looks forward to sharing with you in the near future.

Consult Australia to attend tomorrow's Building Ministers Forum

In her first official engagement as CEO, Nicola Grayson will be attending the Building Ministers Forum, which is attended by the AU/state/territory Building Ministers, to represent Consult Australia's voice as the Ministers seek industry's views on what actions are being taken to support a culture of compliance. We will highlight that Consult Australia has been asked to lead and to quantify the NCC Performance Requirements relating to structural safety on behalf of the structural engineering community in Australia.



Consult Australia calls for a more responsive visa system in submission to the Department of Home Affairs

In response to the public consultation on the permanent migration program and planning levels for visa categories for the 2019-20 financial year, our submission focuses on the importance of ensuring the program is responsive to business needs, which includes a seamless and consistent application process for skilled visas. Our CEO, Nicola Grayson, met with the Assistant Secretary for Migration Policy in Canberra this week to discuss key points from our submission and to highlight the growing shortage.



Tackling sexual harassment in the workplace – last call for input

We are finalising our submission in response to the Australian Human Rights Commission’s national inquiry into sexual harassment in the workplace. Our submission has been developed with the People and HR Roundtable and covers industry's role in tackling sexual harassment, looking at both prevention and complaint handling policies in the workplace, and the importance of a positive workplace culture. Please contact James Robertson if you would like to provide feedback on our final draft, which will be submitted in the next two weeks.



Asset recycling – Consult Australia's next thought leadership report

We will be launching our next thought leadership report on asset recycling next month. This report will highlight the importance of re-building the social licence for asset recycling from the community, and ensuring asset transfer conditions set by governments are considering longer-term impacts on service outcomes. Thank you to the asset recycling working group for developing this substantial report over the last six months.



Women in STEM decadal plan – request for images showcasing women in STEM

The Australian Academy of Science was tasked last year with developing a Women in STEM Decadal Plan. To support the launch of the plan this March, the Academy is requesting any images showcasing Australian women using STEM skills. Please contact if you are willing to share any photos. The Academy has also shared the draft of the decadal plan with Consult Australia, so please contact James Robertson if you are interested in providing any final feedback.



$500 million funding for new water infrastructure projects – open for applications

State and territory governments being urged to apply for a share of $500 million for new water infrastructure projects, which have the potential to transform regional communities and economies. Applications are now open under the expanded capital component of the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund. Applications will be accepted continuously until all funds are committed. Applications received by 3pm AEDT 1 April 2019 will be assessed in this funding round. Click here for more information.

National Construction Code 2019 preview available to download

All three volumes of the NCC 2019 preview, as well as The Guide to Volume One, are now available to download here. NCC 2019 will be adopted from 1 May 2019. Click here for an overview of the key changes and dates. Please be aware that updated and new ABCB Standards and Protocols referenced in NCC 2019 will be available from the ABCB website later this month.
