WA MANAGER

Emma Thunder

Emma joined Consult Australia in June 2022, and brings with her a breadth of experience working in policy, advocacy and executive management across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Emma is an urban planner by background and started her career as a planning consultant in a medium sized Perth-based firm, then moved to the State Government where she held advisory roles in the offices of two former State Planning Ministers, led planning reform and red-tape reduction initiatives, and was independent planning adviser and manager of the office of the Director-General of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

More recently Emma has experience working in and managing other member-based professional peak bodies. She held the position of Deputy Executive Director of the Property Council in WA, with particular responsibility for policy, advocacy and communications; and then led the WA chapter of the Planning Institute of Australia as its State Manager, where her responsibilities were equivalent to those of her new role at Consult Australia.

WA COMMITTEE

The WA Committee gives members the opportunity to develop strategies to tackle local issues as well as contribute to the national agenda. Committee participants are often called upon to represent Consult Australia in local engagement activities (including meetings with government agencies etc). The list of current WA Committee participants is available on our roundtables, committees & forums page.

To help the broader membership understand the activities of the WA Committee, here are the 3 key issues discussed at last meeting.

  1. Committee - The WA Committee, led by new Chair Sarah Iwaniw, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a diverse, representative and committed voice on behalf of all Consult Australia members in WA.
  2. Events - The WA Committee confirmed that in-person gatherings are firmly back on the agenda, creating a series of engaging and productive boardroom events. This will bring members together with key government figures to strengthen relationships and learn from each other.
  3. Capacity - The WA Committee noted that using detailed data gathered during a survey of members helps in collating a package of facts about current market capacity in WA, supported by key messages and proposed solutions. Also, present to key government agencies to dispel some of the myths and misunderstandings about the current market and consultants’ ability to take on and deliver new work.

FUTURENET WA COMMITTEE

The FutureNet WA Committee gives young professionals the opportunity to design and run engaging social and educational events that allow their peers to develop valuable networks. The Committee is open to members and non-members. The FutureNet WA Committee meets monthly and requires engaged individuals willing to create and deliver engaging events.
