About Consult Australia Membership
Consult Australia is a not-for-profit association that delivers value for consulting firms operating in the built and natural environment.
We represent member firms’ business interests at a commercial, community, industry and government level through collaboration, education, support and advocacy.
Membership to Consult Australia is corporate, rather than individual, allowing some 50,000 employees from within our firms to benefit from our services.
We currently have more than 270 members spanning the private and public sectors, ranging from large, multi-disciplinary firms through to small, niche practices.
As an association, Consult Australia is predominantly focused on improving the commercial environment for our members and improving standards across the industry. We achieve this in a number of ways, some of which are listed below.
- Lobbying state and national government and industry bodies to improve the business environment in which our member firms operate. We take a unified, industry on areas such as: business development; procurement; liability; standards; and workplace relation issues.
- Promotion through our popular referral services and close alliances with other business organisations. Consult Australia is internationally recognized as one of the largest members of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).
- Day-to-day running of our member firms’ businesses through an extensive range of support activities and services, including: publications; practice notes; seminars; training and personal advice.

“In recent times especially, the Consult Australia has increased its services for members, and is constantly battling on members’ behalf against regulations and legislation that have the potential to stifle consulting practices. In business, there has to be a friendly face to turn to when help is needed. Consulting Firms need Consult Australia; if there were no Consult Australia tomorrow, consulting firms would get together to create one!”
- Melvyn Maylin, Opus International Consultants

"I have no hesitation in repeating the advice given to me 20 years ago when I made my career move from a large public engineering organisation to become a Sole Practitioner Consulting Engineer – Consult Australia membership will provide you with the equivalent of big organisation support and give you the freedom to concentrate on the engineering."
- Frank Burns, Frank L Burns Consulting Engineers
