The future prosperity and progressive development of Australia’s economic productivity and standards of living depends on an ambitious, achievable and forward thinking infrastructure integrated plan.

The plan must provide Australia with a set of infrastructure assets that benefits all Australians for years to come. To achieve these ambitious goals the infrastructure plan needs to be developed in collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders and undertaken using strategic planning and sound policy development.

The global financial crisis put a new emphasis on infrastructure investment and development as an essential tool to stimulate growth and remove supply-side constraints and bottlenecks.

Ongoing infrastructure investment will allow us to deliver our goods and services to national or international markets more efficiently, which will in turn position our economy to capitalise on the inevitable upturn in domestic and global demand.

Tomorrow's Cities Today
Consult Australia has launched its new policy report, Tomorrow's Cities Today, which puts the spotlight firmly back on the major cities that drive our nation, calling for ambitious reform and providing a series of practical recommendations that would position cities-planning as a national priority.

Launched in Sydney, by a panel of guests including Lucy Hughes Turnbull AO, City of Sydney Chief Executive Monica Barone and Major Cities Unit Executive Director Dorte Ekelund, the launch of Tomorrow's Cities Today has started up an important conversation focusing on the future of Australian cities.

Tomorrow's Cities Today makes practical recommendations under the themes set through the National Urban Policy:
- productivity;
- sustainability;
- liveability; and
- good governance.

Transporting Australia's Future
Consult Australia has launched a new integrated funding framework for transport infrastructure: Transporting Australia’s Future. Australia’s increasing infrastructure backlog sends a clear message that current policy will not fund the transport infrastructure we need now for a growing population and competitive economy. Consult Australia has responded to this challenge by developing a new integrated funding framework for transport infrastructure,Transporting Australia’s Future, as a win-win solution for government, business and the community.

Launched in Brisbane, by the Queensland Minister for Transport, The Hon Rachel Nolan MP, Transporting Australia’s Future has already seen strong Media coverage in:
- The Sydney Morning Herald, The Courier (Better cars, less oil mean fuel tax revenue will dry up);
- The Brisbane Times (‘Congestion could fund rail project: engineers’);
- Trade publications (‘Report call for road tax and infrastructure reform’); and
- Through Radio 2SM and Channel Ten News.
Transporting Australia’s Future provides for integrated reform across each of the following areas:
- better use of existing infrastructure assets;
- taxation reform;
- better public financing instruments; and
- new approaches to, and increased, private financing.

Sydney Toward's Tomorrow
In October 2009 Consult Australia's Infrastructure Roundtable launched Sydney Towards Tomorrow.

Sydney Towards Tomorrow was written by Consult Australia's Infrastructure Roundtable following discussions with Infrastructure Australia’s Infrastructure Coordinator, Michael Deegan. The report identifies and recommends the policy, planning and regulatory reforms required to help protect Sydney's future growth and prosperity. Its strategic focus is on urban planning integration and transport infrastructure rather than providing a list of infrastructure priorities for Sydney.

Sydney Towards Tomorrow is intended to complement other plans such as the NSW Government’s Metropolitan Strategy (2005), City of Sydney’s Sustainable 2030 Plan (2008), Metropolitan Water Plan (2005), and a number of local government plans.

Sydney Towards Tomorrow identifies six key areas of priority that will help to address Sydney’s future infrastructure requirements. It advises and recommends the policy, planning and regulatory reforms required to help protect Sydney’s future growth and prosperity. Its strategic focus is on urban planning integration and transport infrastructure rather than providing a list of infrastructure priorities for Sydney.

The themes targeted in Sydney Towards Tomorrow include:
1. Sustainability;
2. Planning;
3. Attractive densities and land use mixes;
4. Funding;
5. Social issues; and
6. Governance.
These themes are highly interrelated and should be approached in an integrated matter.
